Scholarship Database

The programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Southeast Asia with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related PhD studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and / or research at a higher education institution in Southeast Asia.

The target group for scholarships are graduates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, East Timor, Thailand or Vietnam with a Master’s degree who want to pursue PhD courses at one of the partner institutions of SEARCA (UPLB, KU, IPB, UGM or UPM).

The In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme supports studies in subject areas with strong relevance to national development.

The scholarships at SEARCA are available in the following fields:

• UPLB: Environmental Science (ENS)
• KU: Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management (SLUSE)
• IPB: Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES)
• UPM: Environmental Biotechnology/Environmental Engineering/Environmental System and Modeling
• UGM: Planning and Management of Coastal Area and Watershed (MPPDAS)/Geography

Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

The scholarships are awarded for the duration of the standard period of study for the chosen programme (generally up to three years).

The scholarship includes a monthly scholarship, travel allowance (In-Region scholarships only), printing allowance, study and research allowance, tuition fees.

The application must be made in two steps:

1. First step, all applicants must submit a complete application for the programme via the DAAD Portal.
2. Regardless of this first step, applicants must at the same time apply for admission at SEARCA using the contact details and procedure prescribed by the institution.
   The institution sets its own deadline for the admission process. Please inform yourself in plenty of time about the application process at the host institution.
